Integrating Variable Resources onto the Electricity Grid

Friday, March 17, 2017 | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. MTN

This will be the final webinar for the Idaho-WIEB Western Multi-state Energy Planning Project. It will include an overview of the Roadmap for Policy Makers and a deeper dive into strategies for addressing the challenges of integrating variable resources onto the electricity grid. Questions that will be addressed include:

  • What strategies can be employed to improve integration of variable resources?
  • What can we learn from a recent study on the exploration of the relationship between transmission expansion and wind curtailment?
  • How can policy makers, regulators and utilities compare the relative benefits of different options and translate this into investment strategies?
  • How can frequency response be maintained with less synchronous traditional resources on the system?

Speakers:           Greg Brinkman, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
Nick Schlag, Energy & Environmental Economics
                             Thomas Carr; WIEB
                             Eric Baran, WIEB
